Internet News Sites

More people are turning away from watching TV and following other pursuits. In a recentreport, it was stated that in the USA, the viewing figures for news channels ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox had dropped by 2.5 million, compared to the previous year, 2006.

The internet is one of the places that people are going to for their entertainment andenjoyment of their leisure time. In an edition of Internet Business News, it was reportedthat in the UK, 70% of people in the 16-20 age group would rather surf the internet thanwatch early evening TV.

From the period 2000 to 2006, the number of people on the internet has doubled to onebillion people (source: budd.com.au). Further growth will be at a slower rate, as peoplewait for the implementation of broadband in their vicinity and it's anticipated reduced cost.

Coming back to the topic of TV, one of the exciting things about the internet is the abilityof the user to interact with web sites. Whereas TV is a passive experience, requiring thatyou just watch and listen, many websites have functions where you can get involved andexpress your creativty, emotions, ideas etc. Some of these interactive web sites evenreward you for your input in the form of monetary payment or prizes.

It's no wonder that more people are turning from the TV and spending more time surfingthe net. The web is a vast place, provides rich content and gives you the opportunity tobe a participator and contributor of that content.
